NLCAS

The National Leaving Care Advisory Service (NLCAS) became part of Rainer in 2003 after 20 years as First Key. Throughout this time it has had a single focus of improving the lifechances of young people leaving care.

We work mostly with those agencies responsible for and influential in the lives of young people. This can be by seeking to influence central government legislation and policy, working with local authorities and voluntary agencies to help them be better corporate parents or raising understanding and awareness of the particular needs and situations of young people as they leave care.

Our long experience has given NLCAS a unique breadth of knowledge of the services for young people and this knowledge is used to promote best practice throughout most of the UK.

We believe that young people themselves have a vital role to play in initiating and affecting change, and so wherever possible we work alongside them.

We receive funding from the Department, School and Families to assist our work.
