Peer Research Report
The WMTD peer research project wanted to find out from young people what made the difference for them whilst they were in care and preparing to leave to care.
Empowering care leavers was central to this work so we trained young people as peer researchers to carry out the study.
With the support of our research partner NCB we successfully conducted training sessions with young people and personal advisors. These covered
- the roles and responsibilities of being a peer researcher;
- health and safety,
- confidentiality,
- interview techniques,
- research protocol
We also used this time to test out the questionnaire. In total we trained 33 young people as peer researchers from 25 local authorities who completed 265 interviews.
The success of this study is testament to the hard work of the peer researchers, the support from the personal advisors and the local authorities and most importantly the 265 young people who gave up their time to be interviewed.
