Vacancy: Head of National Care Advisory Service (NCAS) - deadline Friday 27 November 2009

NCAS is seeking a new leader to drive forward its exciting business agenda over the next 2 years. We are looking for an individual who can bring to the role a passion and commitment to the needs of those in and leaving care with the ability to lead, manage and develop a small team of highly committed colleagues.

Fixed term until 31 March 2011 (secondments welcomed).

The National Care Advisory Service (NCAS) leads the way in its policy and practice work with those either in care or leaving care. NCAS has a significant national role, funded by DCSF, providing advice and support to local authorities, regional and central government in relation to care leavers. In addition NCAS is involved in the delivery of a wide range of projects and programmes from its pioneering work around corporate parenting and young people’s participation to its involvement in the implementation of the Care Matters agenda. NCAS is also leading part of the DCSF’s contribution to the government’s social mobility agenda through its management of a large scale employability programme From Care 2 Work. NCAS maintains a large network of local authority leaving care services through its facilitation of the National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum.

This is an exciting role in which the post-holder operates across a wide spectrum from liaising with and supporting Ministers and Senior Civil Servants, informing and supporting leading academics to working closely with those responsible for delivering quality services at the local level along with maintaining a critical role within the wider Catch22 charity.

We are seeking to appoint an individual who understands the challenges of practitioners and managers in addition to having the ability to influence and assist in the development of policy whilst possessing the entrepreneurial skills to win new business for NCAS and cement its leadership role within the Leaving Care arena.
