Comprehensive Area Assessments and Care leavers - a briefing on the new local authority inspection framework
This new NCAS briefing provides an overview of the new framework for assessing local services and how this affects services for young people moving on from local authority care.
Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) is the new system for looking at the performance of local public services in England. From April 2009 they replace Comprehensive Performance Assessments (CPAs), Annual Performance Assessments (APAs) and Joint Area Reviews (JARs) as the means of independently assessing local services
The CAA framework has been developed jointly between seven inspectorates and will give an overall picture of how well councils and their partners are doing in delivering national and local priorities. The feedback it provides will also support local authorities to improve services. CAA inspection pulls on the expertise of all the inspectorates, but Ofsted continues to have responsibility for inspecting safeguarding and services for looked after children.
